Further to our previous communication that our CEO, Andrea Cohen will be leaving Unison on June 29th to take on the role of CEO of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Cary Milner as Interim CEO.
Cary has a long history working with community based health and social justice organizations. He was the founding and long standing Executive Director of the Black Creek Community Health Centre, a multi-site organization serving priority communities adjacent to Unison’s catchment. In that role his leadership contributed to the expansion of the programs and services and in the development of three capital projects.
His commitment to the community sector is evidenced in his voluntary role as a member of the board of directors in a variety of not-for-profit organizations including St. Stephen’s Community House, Scadding Court, Youth Clinical Services, Community Organizational Health, Doctor’s Hospital Community Advisory Board, and the Jane-Finch Legal Clinic, among others.
Cary’s community development experience involved being a Peace Corps Volunteer in Brazil for two years and working in the areas of public health and social housing. He brings an academic background in Medical Sociology where he earned his PhD. at the University of Toronto.
Cary will start at Unison on June 22nd, 2012. The board is in the process of securing a recruitment firm in order to move quickly on the recruitment of a permanent CEO.
