In 2011, the Board of Directors approved Unison Community Engagement Framework. The strategy outlines various ways of engaging Unison community members to ensure that everyone feels heard and respected, to increase involvement with Unison and to make sure our programs and services are in line with community needs. Community forums at site level were determined as one of the strategies to engage our communities.
The first series of community forums were held in November 2011.Each event featured an Open House to promote programs and services offered by Unison and other neighbourhood agencies and small group discussions around neighbourhood priorities and Unison’s role in meeting the community needs.
Overall over 350 people attended community nights at all four locations. With over 160 people participating in conversations during community nights, we were able to collect a considerable amount of information about neighbourhood priorities and Unison’s role in addressing these needs.
