Why Pathways?

Pathways to Education-Lawrence<Heights is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and committed mentors and tutors!

Why Volunteer with Pathways to Education?

Pathways to Education offers you an opportunity to make a long-lasting, positive difference in the lives of young people. As an adult interested in our youth and willing to donate consistent time and energy to support them, you are making a strong, collective statement about how much and how many people believe in the capabilities of our youth.

We have proven success: at our Regent Park site the drop-out rate has been reduced from 56% to 10% and the post-secondary participation rate increased from 20% to 80%.  In the Lawrence Heights Community (Allen Expressway & Lawrence Avenue West), the number of students considered to be “at-risk” decreased from 38.5% to 18.5% since our inception.

We provide training, support, community service letters, and volunteer appreciation events.  Volunteers are an important component to the Pathways program and essential to our success.  Students often report that volunteers are what motivate them to participate in tutoring and mentoring activities and have helped them get better grades at school.

What do volunteers do?

Tutors help students in grades 9-12 in groups or one-on-one in a variety of subjects.  Tutors commit two hours per week in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood (from Monday to Thursday between 4:30 PM -7:30PM).

Mentors co-lead planned inclusive and engaging group activities for student in grades 9 and 10.  Mentors commit two hours per week (from Tuesday to Thursday from 6:00PM-8:00PM).
